The City of Margate was created in 1955 and encompasses approximately 9.2 square miles. Located 15 miles north of Ft. Lauderdale, Margate was designed to be another Venice with canal fronted homes. Housing is primarily single family homes and condominium developments.

The Community Center offers educational and recreational programs for all ages. Margate is home to 105 acres of parks which includes 18 City parks.

The Winfield Park offers a fishing area and a boat ramp. The Firefighter's Park is dedicated to the nation's finest and includes a roller hockey rink and tennis courts.

The Carolina Club is a three story plantation-style club for fine dining with an 18 hole golf course with modern housing built around the course. The beach is within a 15 minute drive.
